in the upcoming documentary Become MORE, the question is asked: " What will you become when you remember who Jesus is?". Now at first, this may seem like an insignificant question, but I've found that it is key to unlock one's true identity.
When Peter had the revelation of Jesus he became a powerful rock to defeat Satan(Matthew 16:23-24), but when he forgot who Jesus was he became a stumbling block(v23).
Jesus told the disciples that he was to suffer many things at the hand of leaders and be killed, but be raised to life on the third day(v21). Yet only thing Peter heard was " suffer and killed " and overlooked that Jesus would be raised on the third day. He freaked out and thought he tell Jesus a thing or two... and that's when Jesus said: " Get thee behind me Satan"(v.23). In this little passage, Peter went from " rock"(v16) to "stumbling block"(v24) because he only had in mind " human concerns" (v.23) and not the big picture from God.
I've got something in common with Peter. One day I see Jesus clearly and I'm solid as a rock, but then suffering comes, and I can easily stop listening to Jesus, and forget that Jesus is the resurrection! Sometimes suffering can keep me from listening to Jesus and miss out on the resurrection because I'm too busy holding onto bitterness toward someone or even God. Yet, when I realize who Jesus is, and listen to him all the way...I become more than my suffering and bitterness.
Jesus said to the woman at the well:
"If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water" ( John 4:10)
When I recognize who Jesus is ( the gift of God) things start to change, and my soul is refreshed. The closer I get to Jesus, the closer I get to God, and God reveals to me who I am created to be. So what do I become when I remember who Jesus is? I become fearless, I become better, not bitter, and I become more than a conqueror.
