To “Go West” means to die to selfish-ambition ( lust, pride, arrogance, jealousy, envy and the like). Historically when people said “Go west “ it meant to go die because the sun sets in the west, and people compare the sunset to the end of one’s life.

Jesus said, "For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it." - Matthew 16:25.

In the Kingdom of God, it's not about forcing our way to the top but laying it down and watching God multiply everything we thought we'd lose.

This song is real to me because I  moved west in 2016 to gain a spiritual perspective and see more of God. I did lose a lot, but I also gained so much insight into the nature of God. This song is a reflection of Jesus who laid down his life, and "had the worse", but God not only raised him but raised me because he denied selfish-ambition.
